Well that was a year, most would agree quite a mess
2020 arrived, and gave us a test
It brought many stories, with not too much fun
Let’s all give a toast, ‘here’s to 2021!’
A virus was spread, a pandemic at that
Some say from China, some say from a bat
A threat no one saw, COVID brought a new fear
Many stayed home, to drink all their beer.
The markets crashed quick, as the infection spread wide
Trump said ‘no big deal’, some believe that he lied
An economy on edge, that no one could see
A vaccine our big hope, as we look to Fauci.
George Floyds death impacted us, his family to grieve
Black Lives Matter, with the words ‘I can’t breathe’
Fires roared in the west, polluting the air
Somewhere disappointed, is a sad Smokey Bear.
Elections bring anxiety, mail-in ballots a large task
Debate interrupted, as Trump wears no mask
The race proved too tight, fears began to mount
All while we wondered if Nevada forgot how to count?
In the end Biden won, America grew tired
Biden and Harris joyous, exclaiming ‘You’re Fired’
No more attack ads, back to the facts
Can we all finally, sit back and relax?
And some great names were lost, resting in heaven
Rockstar Van Halen, and a 007
Trailblazers Ginsberg and Lewis, a Laker passed in a wreck
A favorite gameshow host, ‘who is Alex Trebek?’
To a new day and new year, we welcome the change
No more COVID or murder hornets, or other things strange
No more election stress, leaving most at their brink
The only Corona that’ll be ok, is the kind you can drink.
Our sights to 2021, to a new year we look
A fresh start for all, 2020 closing its book
Here’s to a new page, another new chapter
Here’s to more smiles, and a whole lot more laughter.
